Love & Wind & Innocence

It was the day of the big wind and you,
Lithe and supple, bending to the wind

In childish dance, eyes big and

Believing, dark-haired wonder, each strand

Alive to the will of the wind, swaying you in your

Big hat, twirling you in the grass, an

Imagined ballerina, not tiptoed but just

As graceful, lulling me to you, teasing

Me away, dancing with your shadow,

Making me jealous of it, wanting to be

Your only shadow, your only accompaniment,

Following you without running, inhibited

By my seriousness, playing the unplayful

Man, seeing you as a woman, on the day

Of the big wind and you, lithe and supple,

Bending to the wind, and to me.
