Tears of Fire

Hold life lightly
as if it could not even be touched
your fingers barely feeling
the warm vibration of it
as it moves through time
enveloping all in its path
crumbling creation to dust

Hold life lightly
let it touch you with no
more weight than a butterfly
or hummingbird
with wings flailing
ready to fly off at the slightest
jar

Hold life lightly
let it not hold you
or it will clasp you too tightly
so that you cannot breath
or see
or speak the truth

Hold lightly this life
and cling instead
to what comes after
for where your heart is
there is your treasure

You can spend it now
or possess it later

Hold life lightly now
or hold nothing
in death
but death
and tears of fire
